BuildVolume respects your privacy and is committed to processing personal information responsibly and in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 ("POPIA") and other applicable South African legislation.

B Volume (Pty) Ltd t/a BuildVolume and BuildVolume JHB (Pty) Ltd t/a BuildVolume may each act as a "responsible party" under POPIA for personal information processed for transactions, customers, staff, systems or operations under their respective control.

B Volume (Pty) Ltd operates the BuildVolume Online Store and may process information centrally for Website, administration and support purposes.

Where a transaction is concluded with BuildVolume JHB (Pty) Ltd, that company may process the customer information necessary to fulfil and administer that transaction.

The responsible party or parties therefore depend on the relevant processing activity.

Service, safety, warranty, transactional and product-recall communications are not necessarily marketing and may continue where required to administer your relationship with BuildVolume.

BuildVolume may maintain suppression records to ensure that customers who have opted out are not inadvertently re-added to marketing lists.
 

9. SHARING PERSONAL INFORMATION
 

BuildVolume does not sell personal information to third parties.

10. LINKED BUILDVOLUME COMPANIES
 

Because BuildVolume operates through more than one legal entity, information may need to be shared between linked BuildVolume companies for legitimate operational purposes.

For example, if the BuildVolume Online Store displays stock from BuildVolume JHB Store and you select that store to supply or fulfil your order, relevant customer and order information may be shared with BuildVolume JHB (Pty) Ltd to:

  • process the transaction;

  • reserve or allocate stock;

  • prepare the order;

  • communicate with you;

  • arrange collection or delivery;

  • issue transaction documentation; and

  • provide after-sales support.

Only information reasonably necessary for the relevant purpose should be shared.
 

11. CROSS-BORDER TRANSFERS
 

Some manufacturers, technology providers, cloud platforms and service providers may process personal information outside South Africa.

BuildVolume will make cross-border transfers only where permitted by section 72 of POPIA.

  • the recipient is subject to an adequate data-protection law;

  • an agreement or binding rules provide appropriate protection;

  • the data subject consents where appropriate; or

  • another statutory basis permits the transfer.
     

12. SECURITY OF PERSONAL INFORMATION
 

BuildVolume takes reasonable technical and organisational measures appropriate to the nature of the information and associated risks.

  • authentication;

  • backups;

  • endpoint security;

  • network security;

  • physical security;

  • employee confidentiality measures;

  • access restrictions; and

  • supplier/vendor security controls.

No electronic system can be guaranteed to be completely secure, but BuildVolume takes reasonable steps required by applicable law to safeguard personal information.

If BuildVolume has reasonable grounds to believe that personal information has been accessed or acquired by an unauthorised person, BuildVolume will follow the security-compromise requirements prescribed by POPIA.

Subject to POPIA and PAIA, you may have the right to:

  • request confirmation that BuildVolume holds personal information about you;

  • request access to your personal information;

  • request correction of inaccurate information;

  • request deletion or destruction where legally appropriate;

  • object to certain processing on reasonable grounds;

  • withdraw consent where processing relies on consent;

  • object to direct marketing;

  • request information regarding third parties who have had access to your information where applicable; and

  • lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator.

BuildVolume may require reasonable proof of identity before processing an access, correction or deletion request.

A request may be refused or limited where legislation permits or requires this.
 

16. CHILDREN AND SPECIAL PERSONAL INFORMATION
 

BuildVolume does not intentionally process children's personal information or special personal information unless there is a lawful operational requirement and an appropriate POPIA basis or authorisation.

Where children interact with BuildVolume products or services, supervision by a competent person may be appropriate.

If you provide another person's personal information to BuildVolume, such as:

  • a delivery recipient;

  • authorised collector; or

  • technical contact,
